SHIFT: Three Projects Constructing at New Dialogue About Race in America @ San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) Galleries

Curated by SFAC Galleries Director Meg Shiffler, SHIFT was a thematic group exhibition of newly commissioned works by Elizabeth Axtman, David Huffman, and Travis Somerville. In their work, each explore racial histories and futures in the US. This exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue that I project managed and co-edited with Shiffler, commissioning essays about each of the new works, and interviews between the artists and other cultural thinkers. Scholars and critics Kymberly N. Pinder, PhD, Derek Conrad Murray, PhD, and Post Brothers tackled essays. Comedian W. Kamau Bell, novelist and critic Ishmael Reed, and artist Enrique Chagoya entered into conversation with respective artists about their works. In addition to the catalogue, I was a discussant with David Huffman in a series of public programs around the exhibition. The catalogue was designed by Joshua Singer / atomtan design.
